Aldegonde Van Alsenoy (Ava)
Founder & Designer
Born and raised in the town of Antwerp, Belgian designer Ava has over 20 years of experience running workshops, managing wholesale, and retail spaces under her belt. Her past work has taken her to some of the most remote parts of the globe, including handweaving with refugees from the mountainous regions of Europe where she started her love for fabrics.
From 1997 to 2006, she ran the Antwerp weaving workshop called BETET SKARA where she produced handwoven trimmings for the international clothes and accessories collection together with renowned designers such as Dries Van Noten, Haider Ackerman, and Christian Wijnants. This very workshop and collections opened doors as well to showrooms in Paris, an edgy multi-brand store in Belgium and gave way to entering the Japanese fashion market.
After leaving her leadership role at BETET SKARA, she decided to move to Vietnam, where she now resides and works full-time. Four years after moving to her new-found home, she opened Avana Vietnam, a designer retail store where she has taken her creativity to the next level working alongside local communities and minority groups from the Vietnamese highlands.
